I registered a domain name, and started a “web property” as they call it.  UInfortunately it’s not gone exactly as planned, but I think it wil get there.  Question is, how long before iTunes moves to a subscription model like Zune or Nokia or Napster (?)

Last Day

It’s my last day on client site today and boy is it dragging.  I’m the only one in in my area and seeing as I’ve got all the work tidied away, I should really be heading off home, however I sit outside the MD’s office and it wouldn’t look great from the perspective of landing another gig here.  It is a great place to work as a permanent employee (great canteen, 7 weeks holiday as standard, other benefits are good) but it can be a bit tough as a consultant.  You see they are a charity that operates as a non profit  but there is no real reason why they shouldn’t be making a bunch of profit.  It tough to get them to change anything.

 

Anyway, the reason I’m off is that child v2.0 is due imminently and so I’m taking the rest of the summer off and will probably only work part time from then on for the foreseeable future. The Boy is only 2 I’ve forgotten just about everything that we had to go through with him as a baby, and whilst I’m sure it will all come back to me when B is around, I’ve not managed to remember much of it yet.  On that note, any ideas for names for a baby?

A Picture Paints a Thousand Words

They say that a picture paints a thousand words, and in our case, that last picture over at Flickr
Does just that. It was the last day of a rather enjoyable year travelling and taking photos and you can see that we are just sooo happy to be returning to England. Two days later and we were just that. You see, we’d planned to return to England from Sri Lanka on the 13th January 2005 but we moved the flights forward a couple of weeks to Xmas eve to surprise our parents. So we duly came home on Xmas eve, (the pic was taken just before we got on the flight) and everyone was happy but we were slightly down about the whole thing. Then Xmas day came and went and when we woke on the morning of the 26th we were indeed very happy to be home and not back in SL, where that room of the pic was completely destroyed by the tsunami. Just about everyone we had met in that last month there had had their homes and in some cases family members taken away by the wave.

Like I said, we were glad to be alive.

At Last

At long last I’ve managed to fix the horrible way that themes were starting to look on this place, now all I need to do is get this one looking how I want it.   Oh and sort out the magically changing font sizes.

Back with The Boy

OK, so I’m back again.  This parenting lark is tiring to say the least.  I did manage a fun packed few days with the boy this past weekend, and even managed to get to see him play with other kids for the first time ever (rather than just play near them) and also try and climb a tree which was hilarious.  He picked the biggest tree in the park and just attacked it with gusto and no thought as to how he was going to get to the top, just this innate knowledge that at the top of it was going to be the best fun ever.  That is until he saw a stick on the ground near by and picked it up to chase pigeons with it.

 

With the new one on the way in a months time and because CK is getting too large to walk much (B is weighing in at 7 1/2 lbs and still 4 weeks of gestation left!) I’m getting loads of this kind of time with The Boy.  And I love it.  I think that I may come across as a bit of a prong in the park though, being the only person there over the age of five on hands an knees looking at bugs, but hey, who cares?  He still needs to work out some of the finer points of not eating worms though, I blame his mother and all the spaghetti he’s getting at home.  And I think he made his first joke over the weekend as well.  We were playing with some toy planes and he belched, looked at me and said “Sonic Burp!”.  Had me in stitches.

 

Right, off to right some more wrongs and get home before tea.

WWZ

So WWZ comes even closer to being a reality.  One year after it was annoucend that Max (son of Mel) Brooks’ books World War Z had been bought by Brad Pitt’s production company, a draft of the script has been completed.  It’s been penned by Multi Hugo award winning  J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote 90% of the Babylon 5 scripts and a dozen or more Twilight Zone Episodes.  Sounds good so far?  Yes it does.

 

However, the problem I see in the making of this film is jus thow the hell they are going to do it.  The book was mainly read by zombie geeks like me, but when you go back and revist it (after of course planning your own zombie survival strategy (Loved ones, Tinned Food, Landrover, Tundra in that order thankyouverymuch)) it’s just really a series of face to face interviews and recollections of past events.  That which works incredibly well as a novel would look awful on film as a series of flashbacks.

Mind you nothing, NOTHING could be worse than Diary of the Dead.  I watched the first half hour or so of this at the weekend with friends and we were all, to a man, stunned at just how gut wrenchingly awful it was.

I’m an Old Man

So as mentioned previously there is a reason that I’m filling myself up with drugs at the moment so I was referred to an imaging specialist for an MRI last night.  I know a great many people write a great many things about the state of the health service in this country but i was pleasantly surprised by the whole affair.  It was about three weeks from referral by GP to last nights MRI.  An evening slot because one of the consultants in Bristol has set up his own company doing MRI work in the evenings.  Meaning that I wasn’t offered the “pay 300 notes and we’ll get the staff to stay late” option as he’s formalised that and so my appointment from 8-10 last night was all handled in the same way as if it was  done during the day.
